A Family Photo Shoot at Sunny Sands Beach in Folkestone

We’ve had such gorgeous warm weather down on the coast this week! I feel inspired to share this decidedly summery family beach photo shoot with you today. Meet Eve and Jem, and their sons Ollie and Beau. They’re the loveliest family and live just down the road from where I’m based in Sandgate, near Folkestone. As a wedding and family photographer Kent is my favourite place to shoot. Having lived here most of my life, I know it pretty well! There is so much variety in terms of shoot locations but in my mind you just can’t beat the beach for a family photo shoot.

The Photo Shoot

I’d never met this awesome family before, but we had the best time together. We started by playing and paddling at Sunny Sands beach, before going for ice-creams at Folkestone Harbour. Sunny Sands beach has these amazing arches running all the way along the back of the beach. The perfect spot for playing chase and hide-and-seek! The arches look so cool in photos too. My fave shot of the day has to be the one of Jem throwing Beau into the air – how high?!!

How I Work

My family photography is really relaxed, fun and natural. There’s no cheesy posing required and nobody needs to smile on cue! My favourite thing to photograph is real life – that means I’ll capture your kids’ ice-cream faces, their squealing faces as they run away from the tide, your child’s hand in yours.. With young kids, most of the photo session will be spent playing – I’ll just be hanging out with you, with my camera, trying to keep up ;)

It’s so important to me that I give you lasting memories, in print, to cherish. Kids’ characters change so much as they grow older so I aim to tell a little story through photographs of what it meant to be a part of your wonderful family in this moment in time.
