Christening & Naming Ceremony Photos in London & Kent

There’s been a bit of a surge in enquiries for London Christening Photography recently, so I thought it was about time I shared some of my favourite photos from Christenings and Naming Ceremonies in London and Kent. Christenings and Naming Ceremonies are amongst my favourite events to photograph, and I’ve attended some cracking reception parties too!

A child’s Christening or Naming Ceremony is a super special occasion in your child’s life, and a great excuse to get all the family together to celebrate (and if you’re anything like my own family, drink copious amounts of champagne..). Even so, you might be wondering if it’s actually worth having your child’s Christening or Naming Ceremony photographed, and what you might do with the photos afterwards. You may also have concerns about how to choose a Christening photographer, and how it all works on the day itself.

London Christening Photography Tips

Here are a few tips and pointers to help you decide what’s going to work best for you and your family.

  • For Christenings – first things first, talk to your church about whether or not photography at christenings is allowed. Most churches nowadays are very accommodating, but ultimately it is your minister’s decision as to whether anyone is allowed to photograph the ceremony. If you’re booking me as your London Christening photographer, you can reassure them that I work completely unobtrusively. My camera has a completely silent shutter (literally no ‘click’ sound!) so you can be sure that my presence will hardly be noticed while I capture those gorgeous family memories for you.
  • What’s the lighting like in the ceremony venue? Churches, functions rooms and hotels can present tricky lighting situations from a photography point of view. Having a professional Christening photographer who knows how to handle varied lighting scenarios will be invaluable on your day. You will get far better results hiring a professional than you would simply arming a helpful aunt or uncle with your ‘point and shoot’ camera! The cameras that I use are brilliant at dealing with low light (think churches, barns, hotels and candlelit ceremonies..) – consumer camera models are not!
  • Naming Ceremony and Christening photos – have you thought about whether you’d like documentary style (‘candid’) photography of the event, or more set-up/arranged photos? I usually work in a more documentary ‘fly on the wall’ style, along with a few simple group posed shots if you’d like them. Most families choose to have at least a few of those group photos, to make sure all the key people are photographed together, but it’s usually my more ‘sneaky’ photos (where people aren’t posing for the camera!) that prove the most popular. These will be the gems that end up printed big on the walls of your home, or framed on the mantlepiece.
  • Ask your photographer what your options are in terms of how you receive and use your photos. You might want to be able to access all the edited photos and print and share them however you wish. Or you could look at having an album or photo book made that tells the story of the day, and makes a keepsake for your child in years to come when they’re all grown up! I offer several options, including beautiful leather/silk/cotton covered Folio albums and hardback ‘coffee table’ style photo books. Beautiful lustre-finish prints are also available.

NB: My prices for event photography (parties, birthdays, christenings) include the full set of beautifully edited digital files, giving you lifetime access to your beautiful images to print, share and do whatever you like with!
